He served with Delta Company, 3rd Platoon, 3/187th. William was killed in action on May 13, 1969 during the assault on Dong Ap Bia/Hamburger Hill when a dust-off/medical evacuation helicopter was shot down. William was from Elyria, Ohio and was twenty-seven years of age. He is buried at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria, Ohio. His name is etched on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, Panel 25W, Line 111.
