He served with Alpha Company. William was killed in action in the early morning hours of September 6, 1968 during a cordon operation of the village of Ap Trang Dau. William was from Hayneville, Alabama and was twenty-three years of age. He is buried at Hayneville Cemetery, Hayneville, Alabama.
