He served with Delta Company, 3/187th. Richard was wounded in action on May 14, 1971 during a combat operation when a mine detonated. He was evacuated to a military hospital but succumbed to his wounds on May 19, 1971. Richard was from Salinas California and was twenty-two years of age. He is buried at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Prunedale, California. His name is etched on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, Panel 3W, Line 40. RIP soldier! Never forget! Never forgotten!
