OPORD 11_71 - October 17, 1971OPORD 11_71 commenced October 9, 1971 and involved the drawdown and redeployment of the 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile). It consistent of three phases and …"witnessed the change of division operations from full brigade operations, to defense of fire bases and key installations and finally to the complete stand down of the division”. Elements of the division continued limited operations until redeployment. On October 17, 1971 “…a solider from B/3-187th Inf detonated a BBT consisting of an 81mm mortar round with a pressure type firing device resulting in one US KIA”. CPT Barry Alan Bowman, Bravo Company Commander was the soldier killed in action.
