He was killed in action on July 9, 1968 when the Battalion was under the operational control of the 25th Infantry Division and based out of Cu Chi Basecamp. Vernon Webb Christian Jr. on far right. Vernon deployed with the Battalion in December of 1967 during Operation Eagle Thrust. Vernon was killed in action on August 20, 1968 when the Battalion had rotated back to Phuoc Vinh Basecamp for several weeks in August of 1968.
