He served with Charlie Company, 1st Platoon, 3/187th. He was killed in action on May 14, 1969 during the assault on Dong Ap Bia/Hamburger Hill. Leonard was from Honolulu, Hawaii and was twenty-one years of age. He is buried at Mililani Memorial Park, Waipahu, Hawaii.
