Larry Stephen Semeniuk
Larry Stephen Semeniuk deployed with the 3/187th in December 1967 during Operation Eagle Thrust. He served with Bravo Company. Larry was killed in action in the early morning hours of January 17, 1968 and one other Bravo Company soldier was wounded. He and other members of his platoon were in night ambush positions when a small party of VC approached their position and a short firefight ensued. Two VC were killed, and various items were confiscated. One of the men killed was a VC Battalion Commander.
Larry was the first Rakkasan to lose his life in the Republic of Vietnam.
Larry was from Riverside, Ontario, Canada and was eighteen years of age. He is buried at St Alphonsus Cemetery, Windsor, Ontario. His name is etched on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, Panel 34E, Line 64.
