He served with Charlie Company, 3/187th. James lost his life on June 14, 1970 due to accidental drowning. James was from Rock Island, Illinois and was twenty-three years of age. He is buried at Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. His name is etched on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, Panel 9W, Line 55. RIP soldier! Never forget! Never forgotten!
