He served with Echo Company, Recon Team #1, 3/187th. Irving was wounded in action on October 13, 1971 when around 10:46PM, his team's night defensive position was hit by incoming small arms fire and RPG fire. Recon Team #1 returned fire and called in artillery. Irving was medevac'd from the field but succumbed to his wounds on October 14, 1971. Irving was from Vacherie, Louisiana and was twenty-one years of age. He is buried at First Baptist Church Cemetery, Vacherie, Louisiana. His name is etched on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, Panel 2W, Line 39. RIP soldier! Never forget! Never forgotten! Photo obtained from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund - Wall of Faces.
