He served with 1st Platoon of Delta Company, 3/187th. Carroll was killed in action on August 8, 1970 due to a booby-trap detonating during a combat operation. Carroll was from Otisco, Indiana and was twenty-one years of age. He is buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Louisville, Kentucky.
