He served with Echo Company, 3/187th. Bruce was killed in action on May 11, 1969 on a combat operation during the battle of Dong Ap Bia/Hamburger Hill. Bruce was from Gary, Indiana and was twenty-one years of age. He is buried at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, Indiana.
